Viewpoint: Powell's Stance at Jackson Hole May Be More Cautious
BlockBeats News, August 18th, the Jackson Hole Symposium was the focus of this week. Shwetha Sunilkumar, economist at ANZ Bank, stated that last year Federal Reserve Chairman Powell was straightforward at the meeting about the reasons for an imminent rate cut, but this year Powell may not be as explicit.
Sunilkumar added that Powell may indicate a higher likelihood of further easing measures being implemented this year, but will not commit to a specific timeframe, especially as inflation concerns have intensified following the stronger-than-expected July service and producer price data released last week. She also pointed out that some regional Fed officials have become more cautious about the future easing schedule. The bank's baseline expectation still believes that the Fed will cut rates at the September meeting. (FX678)
